In workplace-based assessment clinician assessors are active information processors within a dynamic and complex social setting. Assessment in clinical settings not only relates to professional performance but also to entrustment decision-making. Relatively little is known about how clinical supervisors use information and what the drivers are behind these processes. In order to study the entrustment process and the factors influencing assessor information processing two series of studies will be conducted utilizing a mixed methodology  approach to provide a perspective on the factors that influence raters’ performance assessment and the entrustment process and how they relate to each other. A better understanding of these factors may result in quality improvement of assessment and instructional practices in the workplace.
